The Journey To Central America - Part 1

Monday, Nov. 10, 2008

It has been a very fruitful week as we have seen the hand of God move in the Ministry of Verdunville Church of God. We started out out last Monday at our General Headquarters in Cleveland, Tennessee making plans for  the Appalachian Dream Center to achieve another level of Ministry. You see, we will soon be working with Life builders and Bro. Leonard Albert in the Lay Ministries Department to implement Matthew 25 Ministry throughout the  body of Christ.

What a service we had back at the church this past Wednesday Night  as we taught about the Ordinances of Communion and Feetwashing. After the teaching service, we participated in Communion and the washing of feet.  I was especially blessed by the attentiveness of the young people and their participation.

My three grandchildren were at church together and I shall forever cherish the moment  when they all made their way to the platform to stand with me. Makayla is

8 years old, Jorden, 5, and Chance is 3.

I picked up Chance and he just laid his little head on my shoulder and allowed me to hold him in my arms the entire time while I taught. It was precious!

The week passed by quickly and I left for Marietta,  Georgia where I was met with true Southern Hospitality and was reunited with old friends in Christ. We truly had a great mission service Saturday night with an old fashioned Logan county Sloppy Joe's recipe and potato salad. I am looking forward to them coming to Logan this Spring.  Still in Georgia on Sunday Morning, what a blessed time we had sharing the Ministry of VCOG, Operation Compassion  the ADC and FADC Ministries. After a great lunch ( as well as awesome desserts) WOW! I  will tell you more later about this -  I want to keep you in suspense!

After lunch,  it was off to the Atlanta airport. Pressing through the crowds, I made my way to board my  flight to Dulles International Airport. Arriving at Dulles, it was now around 8 PM. After what seemed like a mile walk,  a mile ride in a shuttle,  and what seemed like forever, my luggage finally came.  Then, I found out I had approximately another  two miles to catch my shuttle to the hotel!

I was met by a friendly Egyptian driver who kindly helped me with my luggage.  I entered the Motel and looked at the clock. It is now 10:30 p.m. I have to get to bed -  3:30 comes early!  I realized that I had not had supper, so  I looked around and,  what do you know, I found  the meal of all meals -  a bag of Popcorn - what a feast!

At 3:30 a.m. I received the motel wake up call, as well as a cell phone call from  my precious wife to make sure I was up. Yes, up again and off to begin our journey to Central America.   At 5 a.m. I met our Missionary team and we cleared  customs in the US. We began our flight and  upon arrival here in El Salvador, was met with the love of God by many ministers from the region. We were  taken to our host families home and was treated to a  great supper.  Then we were off to the motel to check in. We placed our tired wrinkled suits in the closets, had a few moments rest, and then off again to meet other missionaries for supper.  At the writing of this blog and at the end of a long day, I am looking for some rest.

We desire your prayers for our team here in El Salvador.  There  is a great hunger and spiritual expectation of one of  the greatest moves of God this country has seen in its 5 states.  Keep us in your prayers and I will write again tomorrow.

Blessings,

Pastor Hartwell
